Industry & Career Development (ICD)

The Industry & Career Development (ICD) team work to provide students with an opportunity to work in a professional environment, using and enhancing the skills and knowledge they have developed during their degree studies at ICHM.

Each member of the ICD team has significant industry experience enabling them to assist students with their placements; but also provide an insight into the career paths available to them.

Derek Milligan - Director Student and Industry Engagement

Subject Area: Applied Business Communication

Education and Qualifications:

  • Master Vocational Education & Training,
  • Bachelor Teaching (Education & Training of Adults)
  • Advanced Diploma (Hospitality Management)
  • Cert IV TAA (Training & Assessment)
  • Justice of the Peace (JP)

Industry Background:

Derek has had over 25 years of experience working in the hospitality industry with international branded 5-star hotels in Australia including the pre-opening of 4 hotels. His career has been developed into management roles in both Rooms Division and Food and Beverage Operations.

Derek has a wealth of knowledge and has been teaching ICHM students since 1993 and a Senior Lecturer up until 2015. Derek's specialty area is Business Communications, but he has also been involved with the delivery of subject areas such as Human Resources, Property, Safety and Security, Operational Management, Career Develop and Industry Placement.
