It’s Tradition

Course Commencement and End of Course ceremonies are held each semester and precede the annual Graduation Ceremony at the Adelaide Hilton in early September.  Derek Milligan, Director Student and Industry Engagement, is master of ceremonies.

Course Commencement

There was an extra buzz in the air at this semester’s Course Commencement at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 28 July, as ICHM welcomed its 50th intake of students and celebrated its 25th year.

Course Commencement is the occasion for welcoming new students and students returning from industry placement. ICHM started 25 years ago with a first intake of 43 students and, since then, more than 2500 students of 93 different nationalities have passed through its doors.

Christopher Budiman and Jenny Chan gave the traditional welcome address on behalf of students, saying:

 ‘Welcome to our ICHM family’:

‘Tonight is a great chance to network, as you never know where the people in this room will be in the future.

‘Enjoy! Work hard, play hard, network hard.’

Graduates, too, can be found among the crowd, mixing it with students and staff at the post-formalities cocktail party. This year they included Lachlan Sinclair and Minka Park, with jars of Kimchi Club, the product of her new entrepreneurial food venture.

This is the ceremony acknowledging the finish of the academic component of ICHM’s program for 3rd Year—Bachelor of Business (Hotel Management) and 4th Year—Bachelor of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel Association)—students.

At this semester’s ceremony, Jill Huang also received a certificate, acknowledging her completion of the Study Abroad program.
