Sydney-based hotel management group Borg McMurray Pty Ltd (BMc) officially began on 1 May, when the company bought the caretaking and management rights of Park Regis Concierge Apartments in Cremorne, 5 minutes outside Sydney’s CBD.
Previously Director of Sales and Marketing at the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, Paul McMurray set up BMc in partnership with Donald Borg, previously Senior Revenue Performance Director Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea for the InterContinental Hotels Group.
‘We bring a combined 40 years of international operational and commercial experience, having forged careers at several large hotel brands and smaller independent chains across Europe, South Africa and Australia’, says Paul.
Originally from South Africa, Paul began his ICHM studies at Varsity College and came to ICHM’s Adelaide campus in 1999. His industry placements were at Centra (now Crowne Plaza) Melbourne, The Landmark Park Royal and Hilton, Sydney, where he took on his first Sales role.
Over the next 18 months BMc plans to build the business, adding other hotels/apartments to their portfolio.
Paul says that ICHM was instrumental in making his dream a reality. ‘For one, it was a step in the door to Australia and, more importantly, studying with so many people from around the world taught me the importance of cultural awareness.
‘Cultural awareness is one of the most important business tools in almost every industry, but imperative in the hospitality industry. Understanding the cultures of those around you enhances communication, productivity and unity in the workplace.’
