Tourism Boom

Investment bank UBS last week published a report pointing to the rapid growth in arrivals of overseas visitors and expenditure in hotels.

ICHM has been watching this significant trend over the past two years. More than 120 new hotels are currently being built in Australia; 12 of them in Adelaide.

UBS points out that hotel construction has grown from 3% of non-housing capital expenditure to 12%.

Last year’s Graduation Night Survey showed that not one graduate was looking for work.

As these new hotels come on stream, ICHM expects:

  • More positions for students undertaking placements
  • More employment for graduates
  • More promotion into management positions.

Students who pick up all the skills, knowledge and professionalism that ICHM has to offer will be well placed to benefit from the jobs and opportunities opening up in Australia’s fast-growing industry, tourism.
