Emily describes returning to where her hotel career began as a full circle and rewarding moment.
‘To be able to work with and mentor current and future students is a great joy’, she says.
At ICHM she is primarily working closely with hotels around Australia and internationally to place students in industry, joining Deborah Buttignol and Annabelle Coates (another ICHM graduate) to make up the Industry Placement team.
Additionally, the trio is dedicated to preparing students in the run-up to their industry placements and visiting them while they are there.
From Queensland, Emily signed on at ICHM in 1999 after attending Careers Week and picking up a $15,000 scholarship.
Her industry placements were at Hayman Island Resort and Spa, Queensland, and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Her third was a semester in France, polishing her French language skills.
Hilton Vancouver was her first appointment after graduating, and she worked for a year in Canada before moving back to Australia to focus on climbing the hospitality career ladder.
She joined Starwood Hotels, where she worked at the Sheraton Brisbane (now Sofitel), as a Guest Service Agent, before moving to the Sheraton Noosa Resort and Spa as Front Office Shift Leader and Manager on Duty (2004–08) and then on to the Sheraton Mirage Resort and Spa Gold Coast as Manager on Duty (2008–10).
Emily describes her next position at Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa as arguably her greatest achievement in her hotel career. She was part of the opening team, initially as Front Office Manager and rising to Rooms Division Manager, while doing all the onsite events, living and working at the resort for close to four years.
Most recently she was Event Sales Manager at restaurant and catering company Trippas White Group (2013–15). As a Certified Gallup Strengths Coach, she is qualified to help others understand and harness their natural talents and how to apply an individual’s greatest talents and strengths into everyday life.
