The Semester 1 Course Commencement Ceremony was held on 12 February in the Magarey Room at Adelaide Oval.
‘Despite all the disruptions and challenges, it’s so great to finally be able to be all together to celebrate lots of incredible student achievements over a broad range of semesters.’
These were comments made by Dux of 1st Year (July–December 2019), Fraser Bock, when giving his welcome address to students, along with Certificate of Merit Winner for postgraduate studies, Jackelyn Tan.
The Semester 2 Course Commencement Ceremony had been postponed and then cancelled, because of restrictions due to COVID-19. So the event on 12 February, held under strict COVID-19 protocols, was indeed cause to celebrate.
Master of Ceremonies lecturer Tristan Harding opened formalities by welcoming guests and students, and inviting new students to parade into the ballroom to the applause of all those attending.
The formalities were live streamed, with students from overseas and interstate participating.
After the Acknowledgement of Country, Tristan invited Chief Executive Natalie Simmons to the stage to present Certificates of Merit to Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) students - eight to 1st Years and five to 2nd Years, and Certificates of Academic Achievement - five to 1st Years and six to 2nd Years.
Natalie Simmons then went on to present Certificates of Merit to Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma (Masters program) students - two to 5th Years and seven to 6th Years, and Certificates of Academic Achievement - two to 5th Years and four to 6th Years.
Tristan Harding then welcomed Accor representative Liz Curr to the stage who, along with Natalie Simmons, presented the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) Dux award and Accor Scholarship Prize ($1000) for 1st Year.

Former Chief Executive Gerald Lipman and Natalie Simmons presented the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) Dux award and Delaware North Scholarship Prize ($1000) for 2nd Year.

Principal Dr George Brown invited Dr Ian Whyte and Dr Sumi Angerson to present the Teaching & Learning Award to a lecturer chosen by a committee as demonstrating outstanding ability.

The formalities closed with the traditional Student Welcome Address, given this semester by Fraser Bock and Jacklyn Tan. Students and guest then made their way to a cocktail party in the adjacent room to take up the opportunity to Network, network, network!
‘I know we are both really looking forward to getting to know more of you tonight and in the coming weeks, so please come and have a chat to us’, said Fraser.
