ICHM has awarded eight scholarships worth $15,000 each for 2021, with applicants being judged initially on a written assignment and video presentation, and finally a panel interview.
ICHM congratulates the 2021 scholarship winners and thanks them for their outstanding applications, and extends best wishes to them all as they embark on their exciting futures.
The majority of winners in this year’s line-up were motivated to apply for the scholarship after attending Career Week, held at ICHM in July and October school holidays every year.
They herald from metropolitan and regional South Australia and regional Victoria. All but one of the applicants will start in January and the other in July 2021.
Jennifer Roberts, from St Michael’s College, says going to Career Week was the best decision she could have made. ‘It ignited within me a strong passion for hospitality, daring me to dream about careers I had never considered previously’, she says.
Ashley White, from Clare High School, was also at Career Week in October. Head Prefect of her school this year, Ashley says she was excited to discover the sheer variety of occupations on offer.
‘In such a competitive industry the first step is education and experience, and in my opinion there is no better place to begin than ICHM. And as to the question why have I applied to ICHM . . . well, after being introduced to this course I can’t imagine attending anywhere else’, she says.
Max Callahan, from Ballarat and Clarendon College in Victoria, will start in July next year. He was encouraged to apply because of a strong desire to deliver a memorable hospitality experience to guests. ‘Through ICHM I want to become a valuable employee within hotels, where I can learn, grow and make my way up so that I can take on more responsibilities and be more involved with the operations of the business’, he says.
Another winner, Holly Paynter, from Cabra Dominican College, was at the ICHM Open Day and Career Week, which convinced her that ICHM is the ideal fit for her. ‘It will enable me to have all the opportunities that come through working in tourism combined with working in a management position, ideally as a Hotel Manager’, she says.
Since inception in 1993, ICHM has awarded scholarships worth in excess of $3 million.
Other ICHM Scholarship Winners: $15,000 ($5000 per year)
There were four runners-up for the scholarships who were each awarded $6000 ($2000 per year).
