Emma McKelvie has been awarded a scholarship worth $22,500 to ICHM.
It is the second consecutive year a student from the Glennie school in Toowoomba has been awarded the scholarship - last year it was Naomi Ryan, who is back on campus for second year having completed a six-month internship at The Riley Cairns, North Queensland.
ICHM’s program of a six months of industry placement each year attracted Emma, along with ICHM’s affiliation with the Swiss Hotel Association and the quality of the program.
‘The partnership with the Swiss Hotel Association is highly important to me as the Swiss are known for their precision, attention to detail and excellence, with the finest education and training as evidenced by their setting of global industry standards’, she says.
ICHM is the only school in Australia affiliated with the Swiss Hotel Association. In 2019, it was named best hotel and hospitality school in Australia for the quality of its student experience, according to the leading national Student Experience Survey.
Emma joined ICHM in January to start the three-year Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management), which gives her direct entry into the Master of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel Association).
Emma’s is one of four scholarships ICHM awarded to Australian students in 2020 (three others went to South Australians), and all winners scored highly in a written assignment and panel interview.
‘To be the best in the field I want to learn from the best and that is something I believe ICHM offers above any other hospitality school’, she says.
