Congratulations to the recipients of medals for undergraduate and Masters degrees acknowledged at the End of Course Ceremony held in Lipman Hall at Regency International House (RIH). This particular End of Course was made even more special with the awarding of medals to the first of the Master degree students. ICHM extends a thank you to Jodie du Plooy, for providing an inspiring reflection on her time as an ICHM student from 1st Year through to the Masters. Thank you also to Amber Nguyen and Jacqui Temlett for entertaining words of wisdom in summarising their time at ICHM from a student perspective. As is tradition at End of Course ceremonies, following the formalities everyone gathered in the RIH Common Room to relax over refreshments.

Graduation Ceremony 7 September

The Graduation Ceremony is ICHM’s ‘Night of Nights, when distinguished guests, family, friends, members of the Academic Board and College Council, industry representatives, alumni, staff and, most importantly, graduands, gather at the Hilton International Adelaide for the awarding of degrees: the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) and Bachelor of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel Association). Special guests at this year’s ceremony included the Hon David Ridgway MLC, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment; and the Hon David Pisoni MP, Minister for Innovation and Skills.

In his Graduation Address, Chief Executive Gerald Lipman spoke of stepping down from his role as Chief Executive in January after 22 years, with the involvement of the Lipman family extending back 27 years. ‘It is satisfying to know that we leave ICHM as The Hotel School of Choice in Australia and can lay claim to graduates from 93 countries’, he said. Among statistics: 95% of graduates find work in hotels, 95% are working in Australia, and 86% got their positions either through ICHM’s Industry and Career Development department, or from an ICHM placement.

Academic excellence was acknowledged with the awarding of Certificates of Academic Achievement (to students who received a grade point average of 6.00 or above over all subject in a semester), Certificates of Merit (to the top student of each subject in a semester) and Dux (to the student who receive the top average mark [5] across the eight subjects.
