US hotel giant Marriott International is bringing The Ritz-Carlton brand back to Australia, and graduate Angela Wong is on the ground in Perth.
Graduate Angela Wong is Director of Human Resources for the pre-opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Perth - a 205 room, $500 million development as part of the city’s Elizabeth Quay development.
Reintroduction of the brand in Perth mid-year has set the wheels in motion for other Ritz-Carlton properties, including Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand.
ICHM’s Chief Executive Gerald Lipman says ICHM welcomes the return of The Ritz-Carlton and the opportunities it represents for students and graduates.
Angela Wong made the move to Perth from Adelaide in March, where she had been Manager, Human Resources for the Mayfair Hotel and Adabco Boutique Hotel.
Her career with The Ritz-Carlton goes back to 1998, when she started out as a Front Office Trainee at Ritz-Carlton Singapore, before taking up several roles in catering and events. She relocated to Bahrain in the Middle East for three years where she made the move into Training & Human Resources. She has also worked in Human Resources at The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya, China, and Dubai International Financial Centre.
Angela was Departmental Trainer in all the previous positions before being promoted to Director of Training for The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain and Trainer for The Ritz-Carlton, Middle East and China Region. Angela was also opening Trainer at The Ritz-Carlton, Sharq Village, Guangzhou, Sanya and Krabi.
Angela was part of the pre-opening team with The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai International Financial Centre and Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide and excited to open The Ritz-Carlton Perth in late 2019.
‘Studying at ICHM has provided me with a good understanding of the entire hotel operations, administration and management. This assisted me to fast track through the ranks and transfer within various divisions,’ she says.
Other graduates with The Ritz-Carlton include Raghu Menon, who is General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Doha. He had previously held General Manager positions in Dubai, India and China.
Another graduate, Cameron Clark, who was at the original The Ritz-Carlton, Sydney was subsequently sponsored to move across the Pacific to The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco.
