ICHM has awarded seven scholarships in 2019, with each applicant scoring highly on a written application and panel interview.
This year 26 students from around Australia and overseas were in the running for seven scholarships to ICHM worth A$22,500 each and one bursary, worth $7,500.
Winners came from Singapore, Papua New Guinea; Vietnam, Adelaide, South Australia and regional Queensland.
In the main, applicants were attracted to apply for a scholarship because of ICHM’s balance of on-campus learning and industry placements, crucial to putting theoretical knowledge into practice in the real world of hospitality.
Other factors included ICHM’s international environment in evidence on campus and in industry, and its affiliation with the famed Swiss Hotel Association.
Philip Halliday, from the Australian International School in Singapore, will be on campus from January. He has in mind a career in Food and Beverage or Front Office, and has already experienced numerous hospitality placements, including a two-week placement at SeaWorld Hotel on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
‘Through the experiences gained at ICHM I will have the foundation to work my way up into a management position in this exciting industry’, he says.
From Westminster School in South Australia, Fraser Bock is in the second intake and will be on campus from July.
‘I am amazed at the wide range of ICHM’s industry links through its Swiss Hotel Association heritage and at the incredible selection of hotels students can choose from for their industry placements.’
Like Philip Halliday, Jasmine Willson, from Woodcroft College in Adelaide’s South, will start her studies in January. She says it was the diversity of ICHM’s program she found most attractive.
‘The program structure is so different to a traditional university degree I could not pass up on the opportunity. I will get the same qualification, but with the industry placements I get so many more opportunities’, says Jasmine.
Other winners are:
- McKennan McIndoe, Marist College, Emerald, Queensland
- Giao Nguyen, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College, Enfield, Adelaide
- Naomi Ryan, The Glennie School, Toowoomba, Queensland
- Miriam Stevens, Townsville Grammar School, Townsville, Queensland.
ICHM congratulates all 2019 scholarship winners and thanks all students for their outstanding applications - and extends best wishes to all students as they embark on their hotel management careers.
Since inception in 1993, ICHM has granted scholarships worth in excess of A$2.6 million, and will be offering both Australian and International scholarships at 2020 entry.
