Graduate Aimee Standring was awarded second runner-up in the 2018 AICR’s Australia Best Receptionist of the Year competition.

The AICR is the International Front Office Managers Association (Amicale Internationale des sous-directeurs et chefs de reception des grands hotels).

Each year the AICR runs the Best Receptionist of the Year competition and the best in the world go on to compete for the David Campbell Trophy in the United Kingdom in January 2019.

The AICR’s focus for the comptetition this year was to find and engage young talent and develop future leaders and members through a shared hospitality passion.

The Australian competition was held at Hyatt Canberra on 17 November, when the top three receptionists from Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and the ACT gathered for the judging of Australian Receptionist of the Year.

ICHM is a sponsor of the award, and lecturer Sophie Kinloch has been involved in the competition for the past 10 years.

‘Aimee is to be congratulated on coming second runner-up, as she was among the top 12 nationally competing for the prize’, says Sophie.

Aimee, who graduated in 2017, works at Crown Towers Melbourne.

Sophie Kinloch was a member of the panel for the Australian title this year, playing the role of ‘Ms Ivanov’, an irate guest.

‘I gave the competitors such a hard time that once the competition ended I felt I needed to apologise to all the participants’, she says.

Another ICHM graduate, Victoria Phan, who graduated in 2016, also took part in the competition, doing ‘extremely well’ in the pre-selection process. However, when promoted to Duty Manager at the InterContinental Adelaide she was no longer eligible to compete.

The AICR was founded in the Cote d’Azur in France in 1964 (its registered office is the Hotel Ritz, Paris) and now has more than 2000 members worldwide.
