A lunch for Year 4 students at Hilton Adelaide this year is indicative of ICHM’s industry focus. Last year it was the Crown Plaza. At the lunch, these ambitious final years get to be on the receiving end of a five-star guest-experience for a while and speak to the experts about exactly how it’s done.
A focus on industry permeates ICHM and we know it’s how we develop graduates who get the jobs that lead to great careers, both in industry and outside it.
We point to our program that balances on-campus study with industry placement, drawing on the historic lineage of our partner the Swiss Hotel Association.
Another element is our Graduates in Industry Advisory Committee, which we tap into to ensure our two-degree programs maintain industry relevance in line with current thinking and practices.
We also regularly invite graduates to campus to pass on their invaluable advice, share their experiences with students and staff. Late last year it was Dharmik Kumar, with Tim Chatfield, Associate Director of Sales at Grand Hyatt Melbourne, heading up the 2016 list.
Last year we sharpened our focus even further inviting fourth years to lunch at the Crowne Plaza, one of Adelaide’s premier hotels, hosted by General Manager, Mrs Linda Collis. This semester, it's the Hilton Adelaide where General Manager, Mr Peer Norsell addressed our senior students.
Over the past three years, these students have demonstrated the customer focus, hard work and teamwork required to succeed in industry. The lunch acknowledges their achievements and gives them the opportunity to talk directly to industry leaders, who appear to gain as much from the conversations as the students themselves.
