Three Australian students have each been awarded $20,000 entry scholarships, Selected from a field of 50 applicants, the winners are from Centralian Senior College, Alice Springs; Somerville House, Brisbane; and Rostrevor College, Adelaide.
Somerville’s Emma Krieger says she is on her way to her dream career to become a general manager of a five-star hotel in New York.
Emma follows in the footsteps of another Somerville student and stellar ICHM graduate, Alison McKay.
Also a scholarship winner, Alison came in Dux of the Year every year at ICHM.
Her final industry placement was at the G20 world leader’s forum in Brisbane in 2014 and she is now in Alberta, Canada at the Fairmont’s Chateau Lake Louise luxury ski resort.
Emma says Alison has been guiding her along the way to ICHM, providing her with positive and helpful advice.
‘I look forward to experiences such as Alison’s and through working in different countries and interacting with people from all walks of life establish a good solid, yet adventurous career’, she says.
Centralian’s Erika Hamilton says a student exchange to England for four months in 2013 gave her a taste for international travel.
‘The trip highlighted a strong pull to live outside Australia and discover what the world could show me’, she says.
Maxim Buckley, another Centralian student, will join Erika on campus. Both attended Career Week in 2014, which gave them insight into the program and the benefits of living and working in other countries.
‘The large amount of placements as well as the practical learning will be of benefit as I am a hands-on learner and thrive on learning through experience’, says. Erika.
Rostrevor’s Marcus Sosa says the hotel industry suits his personality. ‘My love of working with people has drawn me to pursuing further education in this field.’
Also at Career Week last year, Marcus is now on campus, along with Emma. Erika will be in 2016’s second intake in July.
Since it was established in 1993, ICHM has awarded scholarships worth in excess of $2.5 million.
