The International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) Adelaide, Australia has produced graduates of the highest calibre that work at all levels of management within and outside the international hospitality industry. 

ICHM was the first, and remains the only, official Swiss Hotel Association (SHA) school in Australia, the world’s oldest hotel industry body. Today, ICHM is owned by Charles Darwin University (CDU). CDU is ranked 31st by Times Higher Education in its 2016 rankings of the best 150 universities in the world aged less than 50 years old. ICHM delivers a Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management) and a Master of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel Association).

Online Instructional Designer - Part-Time

The opportunity

The Online Instructional Designer is a key role in the development and design of online and blended learning courses for ICHM.

The focus of this position will be to work closely with our Lecturers to build online sites that support a best practice model and achieving consistency through standard design templates and systematic work practices.

 In addition, expert advice and training and support in the use of a range of educational technologies is expected as a key part of the position.

The role is a permanent part-time role at 0.5 FTE.

Overview of key responsibilities

  • Contributing to the design of the online production cycle
  • Monitoring the progress of the online learning guides through the production cycle
  • Contributing to the development of high quality resources
  • Providing effective service support
  • Participating in the ongoing quality assurance of online learning materials

Essential criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent skills in education and/or learning design
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with online learning and teaching resources, processes and systems and best practice instructional design principles
  • Exemplary understanding of adult learning principles and their application to online and blended learning environments
  • Ability to apply pedagogical theory to problem-solve complex teaching and learning situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all modalities with lecturing staff and senior management
  • A strong understanding of how to provide support, demonstrations and training of learning technologies to lecturing staff and other stakeholders
  • High level of organisational skills to manage multiple projects
  • Highly developed skills with learning management system tools, with experience of Blackboard a distinct advantage
  • Current Child work related clearance certificate or ability to obtain one
  • Must have the right to live and work in Australia
