ICHM was the first Swiss Hotel Association (SHA) school outside of Europe, and is the only SHA affiliated school in Australia.

Established in 1882, hotelleriesuisse - the Swiss Hotel Association, is the world’s oldest industry body and the centre of excellence for the Swiss hotel industry. As the non-profit umbrella association for the hospitality industry, SHA represents the interests of its members and plays a major role in the development and organisation of education in the hospitality sector.

Historically and in today's fast moving environments, the association has committed itself to enabling both higher professional training and academic education in hotel management schools: SHA established the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) and the Hotel Management School in Thun, and is a shareholder of the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality (SSTH) in Passugg.

Students at ICHM can undertake a Bachelor of Business (Hospitality Management); followed by a Master of International Hotel Management (Swiss Hotel Association), for those that aim to reach the highest levels of the profession.

Over the decades, tourism has experienced continued growth. According to the World Tourism Organisation, international tourist arrivals are expected to increase by 3.3% between 2010 and 2030. Worldwide, every eleventh job is performed in the tourism industry.

On the one hand, this trend represents an opportunity for innovative and creative entrepreneurs. On the other hand, the increasing demand for services, both in terms of quantity and quality, is a challenge for hotel management schools that have to provide the hospitality sector with staff meeting the required expectations.
