"At first I did not appreciate what Adelaide was all about. Now in my third year studies, I like the weather, pretty good most times, the beaches, nice and clean, the stars at night. I used to live in Sydney. It is too fast ... Adelaide is comfortable place to live and study. I live off-campus and manage my own house which I rent. I have two dogs."

"I've been to Melbourne and Sydney, they feel just like home (Hong Kong), just too busy, everyone in a hurry!! Here in Adelaide, people are friendly and I stay in touch with my homestay family where I stayed to do my English course. It's great to have this family when you are so far away from home. They really help me stay confident and are amazed at how much I am improving."
Vivian Ho, Hong Kong

Homestay

HomestayAs members of the host family, students are introduced to Australian culture and maximise their use of English and develop language skills more quickly. Homestay provides a safe and secure environment, the opportunity for outings with the family and support and assistance from family members. Most homestay families are located within 20 minutes travelling by public transport from the CBD.

Homestay families are carefully selected and regular contact with families is maintained in order to provide support and counselling for the student.
A comprehensive booklet containing information on orientation and accommodation is provided to students on arrival to help prepare them for living with an Australian family. Host families receive advice and guidance on how best to acknowledge and nurture cultural differences and successfully integrate the student.

Students are provided with their own bedroom with desk, chair, bed (including bed linen and blankets) and wardrobe. Students should discuss with the family the usage of telephone and share recreation facilities such as television, swimming pool or tennis court. Laundry arrangements are also negotiable.

Rental Accommodation

PizzaStudents can rent an apartment or house on their own or share with other Australian or International students. Note rental properties cannot be arranged prior to arrival in Adelaide, as the student will normally have to sign the lease. Minimum lease is 6 months, but 12-month leases are more common. Please be aware of the obligations regarding length of stay in the lease or contract.

A contract is legally binding once it has been signed and default of the conditions will incur penalties which could include legal action and/or loss of bond and fines. Students also need to be aware that the additional costs of renting include Security Bond (usually between 4 - 6 weeks rent) and connection fees for electricity, gas and telephone.
