Principal's Welcome
The International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) was the first, and is currently the only Swiss Hotel Association (SHA) school outside of Europe. Today, student’s have come from more than eighty countries to benefit from an ICHM education; and we now have graduates on all parts of the globe enjoying successful careers. We are proud of our achievements with students, who while in Adelaide, have access to the best hospitality training facilities in Australia from a multi-award winning school.
Every year we attract a number of sons and daughters of hoteliers from around the world. That has to say something for the recognition ICHM enjoys within the industry! Based on our Swiss Hotel Association heritage, ICHM maintains strong industry links that are vital for maintaining our high standards and relevance. ICHM emphasises industry cooperative training, with Industry Training & Development taking up to 50% of the total program. Guest lectures by international industry leaders and site inspections also form part of the course. All teaching staff have extensive industry experience and undertake ongoing professional development, with several lecturers visiting their industry counterparts around the world each year. It is this commitment to the development of industry competence that earns ICHM, its students and graduates, the credibility and respect demanded of hospitality professionals and future leaders of the industry. I look forward to welcoming you.
Dr. Ian Whyte
ICHM Principal
CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S MESSAGE
It is with pleasure that I welcome you to our 2012 Prospectus.
In the late 1980’s my father, Dr Rex Lipman, was lamenting the absence of quality hotel schools in Australia, so he set about correcting this situation with the South Australian Government and the Swiss Hotel Association (SHA) the preeminent name in international hotel management education. In the year that ICHM received it’s first students, the SHA’s first hotel school, Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne was celebrating its first one hundred years.
On one hand we had the tradition of Europe, and on the other the excitement and promise of Asia Pacific around the 21st century. Since that time it has remained our goal that ICHM would be the best hotel school in Australia, and one of the five best hotel schools in the world. Of course we look at the facilities, curriculum and faculty as we measure ourselves against this goal, but ultimately it is our graduates’ success that determines our ranking. For young people who want to be the best they can, ICHM is a wonderful way to start their career. The mix of operational and academic, the alternate semesters working in industry, and the fun of on-campus living. These are all central to the ICHM program. Is ICHM for you?
Mr. Gerald Lipman
ICHM Chief Executive
